Creative Directions

Mentoring for Makers

Rachael with 2nd Year Design Craft Students at De Montfort University

Creative Directions is a tailored one to one advice session with award winning businesswoman Rachael Chambers, owner of Ferrers Gallery and Contemporary Craft Editor of craft&design magazine.

Rachael has been mentoring and coaching people in the creative industry for over 10 years. The one to one advice sessions are held at Ferrers Gallery and last for 2 hours at a cost of £50+Vat (£60). The sessions are tailored to the individual; so it might be advice and guidance on pricing, approaching galleries, exhibiting at a trade show, gaining publicity or improving sales.

“I trained as a graphic designer and worked in marketing for a number of years before I became owner of Ferrers Gallery. With the experience and knowledge gained in those years coupled with that gained working as a gallery owner and journalist I feel I can share sound advice and give real examples of successful business practices. Having the sessions at the gallery only goes to support this as I am able to show examples of best practise.”

Rachael also runs courses and workshops for groups, colleges and universities and works with various organisations such as Creative Leicestershire, Arts Derbyshire, Design Factory and Creative Enterprise.

If you feel you would benefit from a mentoring session with Rachael, or you are a university, college or group wishing to book a talk or lecture then please email info@ferrersgallery.co.uk or call 01332 863337 to make a booking.

You can read more about Mentoring for Makers in the following article published in craft&design Magazine.

I found the Creative Direction session with Rachael Chambers to be absolutely invaluable, it was great to be able to get some constructive feedback on my work and products, and I found the advice I gained from the day priceless. It really helped me focus on what I needed to do for my upcoming first trade fair, how to present my work and I got some great ideas for displaying it too. I think if I hadn’t had this session my trade fair wouldn’t have been such a success, it helped me to be well prepared and also to gain a valuable insight into what my buyers would be looking for.

My wife Emma and I attended your 'Prepare your approach to galleries' training session in Matlock on Monday, which was absolutely fantastic. We both feel we learnt more in 2 hours there than in 3 years at art college and came away full of ideas and enthusiasm.
